BayView Bulldogs
had their beginnings in the small rural town of Centerville, Iowa and there
was no bay in sight! But, my husband was at that time recovering from
major surgery, and decided that it was time for him to get the dog of his
dreams.
For many years we would attend the St Louis Bulldog Club’s
Specialty Shows and watch these wonderful dogs from the sidelines…but no
more!
As so many of today’s bulldoggers begin, our first girl was a pet. She
was the best bulldog in the world, at least to us, and we called her
“Baby”. This wonderful girl remained our “baby” all her life, and to add
to our joy, she gave us five beautiful males. One of these boys is still
with us today (age 11), and another one gave us our start in the show
ring. A knowledgeable bulldogger from Iowa told us, and quite correctly
I might add, that we suffered from “First Litter Syndrome”, we kept three of
those boys!! Shortly after joining the Bulldog Club of Central Iowa, we
sold the farm, packed up and headed to the Great Northwest.
We arrived on the North shore of the
Olympic peninsula in beautiful Washington State and set up house two blocks
from the Dungeness Bay. We soon joined the Bulldog Club of Greater Seattle
and became very active in the world of Bulldogs. In 1996 I (Claudia)
served as President to this club, the following year I was elected o the
board of Governors in Division V. We also got involved in our local
all-breed club, the Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club, where I have served as
Secretary, Vice president, and President, also as the Show Chair for the
annual All-Breed Show. Presently I have the honor of
being the President of the Bulldog Club of America. My two
year term in this position will end December 31, 2007.
In spring of 1999 we bought what we hoped would be our foundation bitch for
our future in Bulldogs. We named her “Maggie Mae”, and she has given us
more than we could have dreamed of. She attained her Championship at the
young age of fourteen months. Even as a small pup, she was a “looker”,
and she developed into a VERY balanced STANDARD bitch. At maturity she
weighs 43 pounds, has great bone, beautiful topline, a good tail and
tail-set, nice ears, and has produced seven wonderful puppies. Four of
these pups were pointed in the first few months of their show careers. With
this litter began the home of “BayView Bulldogs”. As a good bitch should, she
out-produced herself. And, she did prove to be our Foundation Bitch.
In our breeding program, we are trying to conform to the Standard written by
the Bulldog Club of America. We breed for health, conformation and soundness.
Our goal is to help contribute to a healthy and long-lived Bulldog for future
generations!
